Letter from our
Headmaster
Dear HIS Community,
It is a pleasure to join the amazingly dedicated teaching staff at Hope International School as its new head of school. When considering this position, I sensed a peace deep in my heart while making the decision to join such an extraordinary school. My wife and I along with my youngest son, Jadon, have lived here in Beijing for five years, and it has been a delight to live and work in Beijing.
My family is very important to me. My wife and I have been married for thirty - three years and have five children and four grandchildren. Our oldest daughter lives and works here in Beijing, as does my youngest daughter. Our middle daughter lives in Denver, Colorado and our oldest son lives in New Zealand. We are truely an international family and have lived overseas for the last twenty five years. We know what it is like to live and serve in an overseas capacity and we understand the sacrifice of living and serving overseas.
My professional in education started in Florida having worked as a teacher in Polk County Schools, and then my experience shifted to working at international schools in Estonia, Lativia, and China. I have also served in pastoral ministry over these many years. Hence, my excitement in coming to HIS isthat I get to combine the best of both worlds. My pastoral and education experience combined is what creates excitment in joining this very special community at HIS.
Finally, I would very much like to meet you and have coffee or tea with you soon. My office is always open to you, and I look forward to learning about what makes HOPE International School the very special school that it is. I am eager for an exciting, stable school year for this 2019 - 2020.
Best Regards,
Mr. Randal Eplin

Academic Excellence
Our Educational Philosophy
We are student-learning focused and grace-oriented. We believe that whether a student is with us for one year or 15 years, students will show growth in the following areas:
Communicate effectively with confidence
Honor & respect
Responsible global stewards
Independent learners
Strive for excellence
Think at a higher level

We offer a number of AP classes, with some variation year on year based on student interest. In the 2019-2020 school year, we are running nine AP classes: Calculus BC, Chinese, English Language and Literature, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Music Theory, Statistics, Studio Art: Drawing, and World History.
We believe that every child is unique and work with our students to find best-fit schools for each individual. Every year, the bulk of our students apply to colleges in the United States and Korea, but we support the application process of all students regardless of where their university of interest is located.
In recent years, Hope seniors have matriculated at: Azusa Pacific University, Calvin College, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne, New York University, Purdue University, and Wheaton College in the United States; Darmstadt University of Applied Science in Germany; Keio University in Japan; as well as Korea University and Yonsei University in Korea.
We believe excellent teaching encompasses planning, instruction, providing a positive learning environment, assessing with timely feedback, and communicating with families the progress of each child.
Character Development
Our Personal Growth Philosophy
At HIS we are concerned with more than just a child’s academic ability and progress. Our Character Education program is effective in helping students grow into responsible adults.
We focus on a different character trait each month. In lessons and class time, students have the opportunity to learn aspects of each trait. Wednesday assemblies focus on the trait of the month. At the end of the month, character awards are given to students who have demonstrated growth in the character trait.
Responsibility
Attentiveness
Conservation
Flexibility
Generosity
Patience
Punctuality
Self-Control

The History of AISB - Hope International
Hope International was established as a PK to 12 International school for foreign children in August 2012, and is currently in its eighth year of operation. The administration of HIS recognizes the importance of the interpersonal dimension of the learning process. We believe that community grows out of common commitments and that learning is the result of interaction between people, ideas and experiences.
The Board of Trustees and Administration firmly believe that the development of a child is not restricted to textbooks and worksheets in the classroom but also happens as students engage and extend themselves through sports, arts, and other creative pursuits.
